Composition, arrangement, orchestration, copying & engraving

I specialise in creating high quality music for projects including film and television scores, live concerts and events, studio recordings, theatre productions and publishing, working closely with my clients to fulfil their vision. I work regularly with the leading orchestras across New Zealand and Australia, and often send music further afield, from London to Los Angeles, Denmark to Budapest, Brisbane to Brazil. I’m highly experienced working remotely, with a flexible workflow to suit the creative and logistical demands of varying projects.

  • Original music music for concerts, film and television, as well as sound design and commercial work.

  • Bespoke arrangements, from chamber music, to symphony orchestra, to large multi-tiered arrangements bringing together hundreds of musicians. A list of arrangements available for hire can be found here.

  • I am an expert in Sibelius and Dorico, and proficient in Finale for projects that require it.

  • Equally at home working with Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live and Pro Tools, as with historic or avant-garde handwritten manuscripts.

  • I produce gorgeous, high quality sheet music implementing the latest international standards.

  • Advanced music notation and publishing layouts available using Adobe Creative Suite. PDF preflight quality control executed with Pitstop Pro.

  • Large collection of industry-leading sound libraries and audio plugins to produce high quality mockups at any stage of the project.

I am highly regarded for my deep musical, creative and technical understanding, as well as passion for orchestras, music notation and instrumental technique. I am available to support you and your project, whether that be producing, conducting or coordinating orchestral recording sessions, supervising sheet music production, score/booth reading, synth and orchestral programming, engineering Ableton and QLab playback systems, or simply advice on how to approach a project, on recording line-ups, or how to ensure a session runs smoothly. Feedback

Ryan spent two nights and a day on my large scale orchestral score and parts. This is an extraordinary feat and I was very happy with his perfectionist approach and professional work ethics. Not only did he present the parts meticulously folded and photocopied, but he delivered them to me at rehearsal. Bloody legend! Thanks Ryan, you saved me a bucket load of stress!

Thank you so much for your fantastic contribution to the RWC opening ceremony. You’re such a joy to work with… so light and positive (and incredibly organised… how on earth do you do it?). I really appreciate how hard you worked, how enthusiastic you were and how easy you made everything look.

I got to hear the strings for “Giant of the Sea” once I got into the studio with Warren this past Tuesday. Sat down, played the track and cranked the strings… and all I can say is ‘Oh My God’. You are the man, Ryan. Please pass on my huge massive thanks to your string players - I hope to meet them all one day soon to thank them personally and yourself. I know where I’ll be referring people to for strings work. Thank you my bro. I am beyond happy.

This was a tricky job – lots of fiddly detail and formatting problems in my rough score - which also needed to be turned around quickly. Ryan resolved all technical problems and produced a crisply laid-out and exactingly proofread version of the score (not to mention parts), which kept the project on track. Deadline met - thanks Ryan!

Ryan works for me on quite a regular basis. Much of it has entailed producing full scores and individual performance parts by computer and has involved orchestral, choral, brass band and chamber music ensembles. The standard of production is very high. Ryan deals promptly with work in hand; corrections are dealt with almost by return mail; and the final delivered article is accurate and conforms to instructions. His standards are professional and, insofar as I am concerned, everything he has done has been to my entire satisfaction.

A high octane spectacle.
